Inspiration

Drew McGukin’s upstairs retreat is an elegant mix of patterns from Robert Allen’s Landscape Color collection. The walls and draperies create an extraordinary, impressionistic foundation upon which he layered more patterns, original art and found objects.

For the 2015 Holiday House NYC , interior designer Drew McGukin created an evocative upstairs retreat by adding layer upon layer of fabric from Robert Allen’s new Landscape Color collection. The effect, says McGukin, is a space that vibrates with pattern, “but in a very calming way.” He utilized Robert Allen’s paper-backed wallcovering program to cover the walls in fabric, choosing the impressionistic Acoustic Wave in Driftwood for the walls and the subtle Bedrock in Sandstone for the ceiling. The sofa is covered in Lush Wave in Driftwood and the armchair is upholstered in Flashy in Sandstone.
